What Is CBD?

Cannabidoil, commonly called CBD, is considered a natural remedy used for many common ailments.

It is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid rich in the hemp plant, meaning it will not get you high. This quality is an appealing option for those who are looking for a holistic way to manage anxiety, pain and sleeplessness.

Where does CBD come from?

CBD is derived from the flowers and the leaves of the hemp plant. Hemp can be considered a "cousin" of the marijuana plant. While both look and smell similar, their chemical make up is completely different.

CBD oil is not to be confused with products labeled as "Hemp Seed Oil." Hemp seed oil is an oil that is based entirely from oil pressed out of hemp seeds, which do not contain any CBD. In some instances, the branding of these products are misleading people and they are believing they are getting the CBD in that product when that's not the case. Hemp seed oil is a great source of Omega-3, but not a source for CBD.

Although, some companies may create a CBD oil that has hemp seed oil as their carrier oil. These products are true to their branding. Be sure to always check the ingredients list and make sure there is Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum or Isolate CBD listed.

How does CBD work?

The primary reason why CBD may have so many benefits is because it is directly connected to the Endocannabinoid system. CBD fits into the receptors of this system, promoting development and healing to neurotransmitters that are worn down by inflammation. This will help them function more effectively and help the body maintain overall wellness.

What is the difference between Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum and Isolate products?

Full Spectrum - The Best

A Full Spectrum hemp-derived CBD product is one that is produced with a “full plant extraction.” A full plant extraction includes naturally occurring cannabinoids, flavonoids, plant terpenes, and much more that remain from the original hemp plant. These are known as CBD, CBG, CBC, CBN and a trace of THC. The legal limit of THC allowed is under .3%

All of Budz Family CBD's products are Third Party Tested to ensure our Full Spectrum products are within the legal parameters.

These organic compounds work together synergistically, producing what is referred to as the “Entourage Effect.” Basically, the combination of these compounds give you the maximum potential for health benefits of hemp-derived CBD products.

Broad Spectrum - Second Best

A Broad Spectrum hemp-derived CBD product is a full spectrum formulation that has been processed to remove any traces of THC. The other natural compounds remain, resulting in the entourage effect, but without the traces of THC.

It is thought to have less therapeutic benefits than Full Spectrum CBD products.

However, this is an option to consider if you have obligations which require you to get drug tested for THC.

Isolate - Third Best

CBD Isolate is a formulation that has been processed to remove every other molecule that isn’t CBD. The resulting product is at least 99% pure hemp-derived CBD with 0% THC. Isolate CBD products have limited therapeutic benefits as it only contains one single cannabinoid. The entourage effect is not applicable here.

What's the relationship between CBD and THC?

Try using the analogy of how the Cannabis Family can be compared to the Citrus Fruit Family. The Citrus Fruit Family has Lemons and Oranges. Lemons are sour, while Oranges are sweet. While both fruits are very different, they still belong to the same family.

This is the same for Marijuana (THC) and Hemp (CBD). Both belong to the Cannabis Family, although, Marijuana (THC) has psychoactive effects (will get you high), while Hemp (CBD) is non-psychoactive (will not get you high). Therefore, while both plants come from the same family, they have very different effects; just like lemons and oranges.
